Ipad compatible with pencil8/16/2023 ![]() They’re used to buying those things already. Those basic iPad customers upgrading are already going to need new basically everything but the Pencil No one in the target market has a Pencil 2. Do you not understand profit motive? Do you think items are priced based on their cost?īut Pencil 2 support is somehow a bridge too far? If they could guarantee increased sales while not changing a thing, they would. Have you ever worked in corporate?Įvery change is a cost and risk to Apple. This is like product launch 101 in big business. You don’t change products in mature markets without metrics. They make more money on total iPaf Pro sales than total iPad sales.Īnd of course all iPads combined are less revenue than any single iPhone (except maybe the SE.) It’s low risk.Īnd “landscape camera” is not some new revolutionary idea that needs market testing. Apple cares about per device margin more than anything else. The most popular iPad is not a “low risk” product line It's an entirely arbitrary segmentation decision. If only a "tiny number of customers" use the Pencil 1 with the base iPad anyway, why would Apple be so afraid of alienating them that they'd keep this new iPad stuck with only Pencil 1 support just for them? And moreover: why not support both? There's literally nothing stopping iPads with Pencil 2 support from also supporting the Pencil 1, especially now that Apple sells a USB-C adapter for it. And now pairing and charging will be clumsier and less convenient than before and require them to basically leave this ugly adapter on at all times.Īnd your own logic contradicts itself. Those basic iPad customers upgrading are already going to need new basically everything but the Pencil, and if they already own a Pencil they'll need to buy an adapter. They're less likely to buy this new product if they need a new pencil too (among the tiny number of customers who bought a Pencil 1 with the cheap iPad). The only reason Apple has this hacky Pencil 1 solution is to remove friction from basic iPad customers upgrading. The target market for the iPad 10 are owners of the older base line iPad or other price sensitive customers. But Pencil 2 support is somehow a bridge too far? It progressed in several other ways this generation, including adopting USB-C, dropping the headphone jack, and moving to an all-new design and display. Why on earth not? They're not just going to make the Pencil 1 forever. why? There was no world where the cheapest iPad was going to jump to the Pencil 2 or a Pencil 3. The most popular iPad is not a "low risk" product line, and "landscape camera" is not some new revolutionary idea that needs market testing. To test that feature on the market within a low risk product line. ![]() This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc. If you'd like to view their content together, click here.
